Dengue Fever

dengue feverDengue Fever is a infectious disease spread by mosquitoes. Dengue is transmitted to people by the bite of an Aedes mosquito that is infected with the Dengue Virus. It is not spread from person to person. Unlike, West Nile and Yellow Fever, humans are the only carriers of the disease.

Classical Dengue Fever is painful and debilitating, but rarely fatal. It is often misdiagnosed since it is an influenza like illness. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is rare but has more severe complications which can include liver enlargement, circulatory shock and even death if not treated properly.

Risk Factors:

Signs & Symptoms: appear 3-14 after bitten and last 4-7 days. Symptoms in young children are generally milder.
